Introduction

The aim of this course is to give an introduction to 'Automatic Train Protection and Automatic Train Operation' and some of the methods used to achieve these functions.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to:

Define Block Sections
Explain the function of a Trainstop
Explain the function of TPWS
State the purpose of Block Markers
Describe, briefly, the function of a JTC Track Circuit
Explain the purpose of Permanent Speed Restrictions
Define Maximum Safe Speed (MSS) and Target Speed (TS)
Explain when the Brake Application is applied
Describe a Train Profile
State the functions of the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) System
State the purpose of the PAC (Platform ATO Communicator)
Define Route Run Data
Describe the content of Positive Train Identification (PTI) data
