This course is based on the
Basic Signalling One course and is aimed at new entrants to the railway
industry. We have designed this to give new starters an insight into signalling
and give them a basic knowledge of signalling equipment in order to help them
better understand signalling and prepare them for further Basic Signalling
courses. We also felt it would be beneficial to include safety procedures for
working on electrical equipment and some basic electrical circuitry
knowledge.
Subjects
The course has been
split into seven subjects and each subject has been arranged into unique
training modules each with it's own objectives.

knowledge to:
Carry out safety
procedures when working with electricity
Use
a multimeter to measure volts, current & resistance
Understand
and interpret Ohms law
Understand
and identify resistors from their colour coding
Identify
symbols used on signalling diagrams and interpret signalling
nomenclature

different types of relays and their component parts
Carry
out basic fault finding techniques
Describe
the operation of a simple DC track circuit
Identify
signal aspect sequencing of 2, 3 & 4 aspect signals
Define
a block section, headway & service braking distances
Understand
signal panel indications for route setting/clearing
Who Should Attend
People who are new to the industry and who need to know the basics of Signal
Engineering
Features
Provides an introduction to
Railway Signalling systems. This course prepares candidates to move on to Basic
Signalling One and other basic signalling courses. Improves work performance in
signal engineering activities through knowledge development and helps new
entrants understand the environment around them. Includes hands on activities in
a safe environment.
Learning Approach
Classroom sessions and practical work. Theory and practical assessments are
included.
