Emergency First Aid

Introduction

Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, employees are required to make adequate and appropriate arrangements for first aid in the workplace. In short this means providing 'suitable and sufficient' first aid equipment, facilities, procedures and trained personnel.

Although employees who have attended an 'emergency first aid' course would not be classed as qualified first aiders under the HSE, they would hold vital life saving skills that may be required in an emergency situation. Many employers make arrangements for qualified first aiders and then 'top up' with personnel trained in emergency first aid to ensure immediate action can be taken especially in high risk environments. This is not a substitute course for the First Aid at Work course!
