Heel Drives

Introduction

Delegates attending this course will develop their skills and knowledge to conduct installation maintenance and testing activities on mechanical additional point drives (Heel Drives/back drives) and supplementary detection equipment as used on points in the UK Mainline.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to: 

Have an insight as to why additional drives and supplementary detectors are used.
Install, adjust and set up additional drives
Install, adjust and set up additional detection equipment.
Carry out electrical detection tests.
Carry out maintenance procedures for additional drives.

Who Should Attend

Technicians whose work involves the maintenance / faulting and installation of additional drives, or who need the knowledge to install, test and/or maintain additional drive equipment 

Prerequisites  

Candidates should have attended at least one point specific course.      

Features

Provides knowledge of both 4ft and 6ft heel drives and the set up procedures required. The course allows time for the candidate to gain experience of hands on setting up and testing in a safe environment. The SMS procedures for the equipment is also demonstrated and practiced.           

Learning Approach

Classroom theory sessions using visual aids, and practical demonstrations.

Assessment  

Written test paper plus practical assessments (both of which must be passed to receive a certificate of merit)
