Rule Book Module T1

(For Signal Operations Personnel)

Introduction:

This course covers section T1 of the December 2003 edition of Network Rail's Rulebook. Section T1 replaced section E1 of the superseded rule book and details the arrangements and procedures required for protecting signalling equipment by the signalling technician and the signaller. This course is primarily aimed at signalling operations staff. A separate T1A course is available for signalling technicians.

Objectives:

On successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to:

Authorise signalling work using section T1 of the Network Rail Rulebook GE/RT8000

Describe the arrangements to be made before allowing work to commence on signalling equipment

Describe the instructions to be given and received before commencing work on signalling equipment

Explain the responsibilities of the signaller when granting a disconnection of signalling equipment using section T1

Understand and complete the relevant forms associated with section T1

Demonstrate an ability to correctly carry out the instructions contained in section T1 for a selection of work place scenarios

General information as to when T1 is applied.
When signalling equipment is defective or is not responding.
Appointing others to ensure safety.
Defective main aspect on Track Circuit Block (TCB) lines.
Defective distant or stop signal on other than TCB lines.
Defective position light signal, shunting signal, stop board or limit of shunt signal or indicator.
Defective banner repeating signal.
When trains are to approach a defective signal forming one of a group.
When trains are to pass a defective stop signal.
When trains are to pass over defective mechanically operated points.
When a train or vehicle fails to operate track circuits.
Maintenance of signalling equipment.
Failure of AWS equipment.
Failure of train protection and warning system (TPWS) equipment.

 Who Should Attend:

Signal operation personnel who are required to implement the protection arrangements as detailed in sections T1 of the Network Rail Rule Book GE/RT8000.

 Learning Approach:

Classroom sessions and practical work. Theory and practical assessments are included. Delegates MUST bring with them a copy of Network Rail's Rule Book GE/RT8000
