Introduction
This course is designed to show trainees how to use the Signal Maintenance Testing Handbook when undertaking testing/replacement of signalling equipment.
Trainees attending this course will develop their skills and knowledge to conduct testing activities as laid down in the Signal Maintenance Testing Handbook.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is for trainees to become conversant in the use of the Signal Maintenance Testing Handbook. At the end of this course, trainees will be able to:
- Carry out defined tests as specified in SMTH
- Follow and apply the testing procedures as specified in SMTH
- Deal with and correctly complete SMT documentation as specified in SMTH
The competencies that can be certified are:
- Core Skills Testing
- Cable & Wire Testing
- Earth Testing
- Aspect Testing
- Point Testing
- Block Testing (optional)
- Produce a new Maintenance Test Plan
- Diversion of a Circuit
- TPWS (subject to proof of prior learning)
Additional Information
Personal Protective Equipment
Full PPE is required for this course. All delegates are required to bring:
- Protective “all orange” high Visibility Clothing to Network Rail Standard
- Safety Footwear (Boots) to Network Rail Standard
- Safety Helmet (white/blue) to Network Rail Standard
Certification
A theory assessment will be held at the end of week 1 to test the trainees Core skills knowledge (a pass mark is required to continue with week 2).
Successful trainees will then be assessed on their practical skills in carrying out the defined tests and the correct completion of documentation.
Successful Trainees will leave with a certificate of competence detailing the elements passed. This certificate is not valid unless it has been signed by the Assessor and countersigned by the trainees line manager.
